The section of Isaiah we take up today is the Lord's response to Isaiah's prayer (51:9–11). The prayer is based on the Lord's revelation in verses 1-8. Isaiah is burdened that what the Lord promised is not then being realized. The Lord responds that he is doing His will and, although we cannot see it, it is being carried out for His glory. The Lord challenges two groups: (1) the wicked nation is informed that they are being judged for their disobedience and despising the name of the Lord. (2) The righteous remnant is encouraged to remain faithful. God is bringing salvation. The righteous are to carry the gospel faithfully and the watchmen on the wall are to alert and warn. Salvation and judgment are coming for the Lord's Servant is coming as prophesied (52:13-53:12).
