Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh - Message 3 - Myrrh: Jesus Born to Die - Hebrews 7:26-28. Myrrh is a resin that "bleeds" from the bark of a tree when it is cut. The word means bitter because it is! It is used medicinally as a pain killer (Mark 15:23) and to treat inflammation and all sorts of other illness. It is used as an anointing oil (Tabernacle – Exodus 30:22-38), expensive perfume, and for embalming the dead (John 19:39). Given as a gift by the wise men to Christ, it pointed directly to His holiness and His death as an atoning sacrifice for His people. Jesus was born to die.
