The word "justified in our text is translated "vindicated" in the NASB and ESV translations, and I believe rightfully so. For a person to be vindicated is for them to be cleared of blame or suspicion that they are doing something wrong. In this case it means that the Spirit was clearing and setting forth the fact that the Lord Jesus was not misrepresenting Himself as being the Son of God. Let me give you the 3 evident times that the Holy Spirit vindicated the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1st – The Holy Spirit was the One who vindicated the Lord Jesus at the time of His Incarnation. 2nd – He vindicated our Lord at the time of His baptism. 3rd – He vindicated our Lord at the time of His resurrection.
