The Latter Day Glory - The Mustard Seed Becomes a Giant Plant
The parable of the mustard seed does not allow us to believe or teach that the kingdom of God will diminish or die. On the contrary, Jesus expressly teaches us that the living seed starts out small but eventually becomes the largest of all garden plants, growing large branches and providing shade for the birds of the earth. This is an image found in the Old Testament used to describe kingdoms such as Assyria and Babylon when they became the dominant kingdoms in the world. The birds are the peoples of the earth and the shade is the blessings of the kingdom. Jesus teaches us that His kingdom will be a success and will be victorious. All nations will one day flock to it and be blessed by its shade. His kingdom will not be stopped, diminished, or destroyed. For all the devil can do, he cannot stop the seed from continually growing. Antichrist may have his day, but his short time is nothing compared to the enduring long-standing prosperity of the kingdom of God. Whether you are a premillenialist and think Christ will come back before such a period or a postmillenialist who thinks Christ will come (bodily) after such a period, you should expect this to happen and look for it with great joy and anticipation.
