The psalmist is finding comfort in his "pilgrimage" (v. 54) through life on earth. In a previous section, he has prayed "cause me to walk in path" (v. 35). As he progresses in his prayer, he now says "You have caused me to hope" (v. 49). The key word is "mine" (v. 56). In the previous section Waw, the psalmist is seeking for the deeper understanding of God's Word. Now, this Word has become "mine."
Through the struggles of life, God seeks to speak to us through His Word. When we find comfort in God's Word, we are experiencing the ultimate joy of truly knowing our Lord.
