Paul brought the Gospel to Thessalonica and discipled those who came to Christ. Though he was with them for a few weeks, they formed a deep bond of love. After being forced to leave the city, Paul had no contact with them for several months. His heart was heavy as he worried whether the saints were sufficiently grounded in the faith to withstand temptation. Both Paul and the Thessalonians were enduring much affliction. Paul sent Timothy to strengthen and encourage them, comforting them in their affliction and they sent Timothy back with a good report, bringing comfort to Paul's heart.
