Now why didn't Jonah just end with 3:10? It just seems so complete: God turns Jonah around, the prophet then completes his original mission to Nineveh, there is sweeping revival from the street-corner to the throne-room, and God relents & spares the great city. Remember those last words in 3:10: "And so, God did not act." If you like grace, It just doesn't get any better than this! What more could there be? Let's find out. Return with me to Jonah, starting with 3:10. What a great verse, but as we follow Jonah just one step past v. 10, and we watch him practically melt down over God's mercy towards Nineveh, and the further he goes, the madder Jonah gets. It would appear that God's work with Jonah is not quite finished! Let's follow one last lesson for the hard-hearted prophet. A lesson about compassion: i.) Jonah exposed (vv.1-4); ii.) Jonah probed (vv.5-8); Jonah schooled (vv.9-11).
