We are too weak not to pray. The problem is that we don't know that we're weak. King Asa is an interesting study on this point. He started well and finished badly. He started in humble dependence on God in the face of a massive invasion force from Ethiopia. But after much success and prosperity and peace, Asa grew cold. When faced with a challenge from northern Israel, he didn't turn to trust in God as he had previously. Instead, he relied on the king of Aram to help him. God sent a prophet to rebuke him, but he angrily lashed out at the prophet and threw him in prison. Then he oppressed some of the people at the same time. At the end of his life, he was severely diseased in his feet and in much pain. But he still would not turn to the Lord. Instead, he turned to the physicians. What happened? How did Asa go from humble dependence in prayer to proud arrogance and self-sufficiency? The answer: one inch at a time. God is removing the props out from under us in America. He has sent an army of destroyers and America is in ruins. When will we cry out to God? How much worse does it have to get?
