Genesis 20 is a dramatic, multi-layered account of the interactions between two men, who represent two kingdoms. Abraham, and his household are essentially the Church of his generation. As God's kingdom, he is called to sojourn among the kingdom of Man. Abimelech, the king of Gerar represents the unbelieving World, among whom the Church is called to "wander." Two kingdoms, both under the sovereign hand of God, but only one has the hope of the gospel. In this passage, we see God's calling for the Church in a frightening world to live in faith toward God, and to speak with truth, and serve in love, our neighbors in the World.
