Jesus watched the people putting money into the offering box. The rich gave out of their surplus, but the widow put in all she had to live on. There are many lessons from this text. The poor should also give, not just receive. Christ cares more about the faith behind the gift than He does about the dollar amount. Riches do not make us more generous. Usually they make us less generous. And considering the many warnings from scripture, riches usually destroy those who have them. We should not think we will be an excpeption. I feel sorry for those who won the recent lottery jackpot. Most likely, it will destroy them.
