This morning, we are not going to focus so much on the local weather, but we will get out our spiritual barometers to engage in the current pressures that we are under. In the passage today, Jesus has been doing some wonderful things. He has been teaching throughout the regions, healing the sick, casting out devils, and revealing God’s love and truth to the crowds. In the face of this goodness, he is being opposed by the scribes and Pharisees of Jerusalem. He has been accused of being a liar and casting out demons by the power of Satan. His own family members have considered Jesus to be out of his mind. Jesus’ disciples are watching all of this and being trained to sow the seeds of the gospel, enjoy the light of divine revelation, trust God for the harvest, and watch the kingdom expand one soul at a time. There have been some times of discouragement, but Jesus continues to reveal to them the reality of the sovereignty and power of God. They are learning, but they have more to learn. After a long day of ministry, something unexpected happens. The disciples find themselves quickly in the middle of a storm on the Sea of Galilee. There responses are very similar to how ours are often. The title today will be “Weathering the Storms.” We will consider the following 1) Jesus Understands Our Daily Lives 2) Jesus Rests in God’s Control 3) Jesus Explains What the Storm Reveals. Let us dive in to Mark 4:35-41.
