Jesus spoke very highly of John the Baptist stating, “Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he” (Matt. 11:11). This was a preacher man. He was more committed to God and the truth than he was to the feelings of the crowd. He desired to see people’s lives changed and living according to righteousness and holiness. As a result, the world desired to snuff out the fire of his life and message. As we will see in our passage today, John found himself in prison for preaching the truth and his life would end there. As a disciple of Jesus Christ, we need to know what to expect as we share the truth with the world. Our title today will be “A Message the World Does Not Want To Hear.” We will consider 1) The World is Troubled/agitated By the Truth 2) The World Desires to Silence the Truth 3) The World Attempts to Put the Truth to Death.
