The apostle John has another vision [A.D. 95] and sees the temple of God. Herod's temple, [the temple in Jesus' day] was destroyed by the Romans in A.D. 70. Therefore, the temple that John saw, no doubt, refers to the future temple to be rebuilt in the Tribulation period. During this time, the Jewish people will revert to the Old Testament form of worship and will once again offer animal sacrifices for their sins. They will rebuild the temple in unbelief, since they do not believe that the Messiah has come. In addition, this chapter introduces the two supernatural witnesses who will come on the scene to convince lost humanity the need of salvation and to proclaim God's judgment on the wicked world. They will fearlessly preach the gospel during Earth's darkest hour.
