Abraham has experienced a rich history of the Lord's dealings with him. There is a great reservoir of blessing, help and guidance that he is able to refer to enable him to made decisions. But here we find the great patriarch having to go over a lesson that he failed to learn from before (Genesis 12:14-20). He experiences another failure with fear and deceit acting where faith should have been. It forces us to ask why we do not learn from the past and reveals the ongoing power of sin. We should expect great things of God than often we do when in difficult situations. We need to trust the Lord with consequences of doing the right thing and be vigilant with ourselves to ensure we are not failing to have faith.
