In our passage this Sunday evening we learn what happens to God's people if they do not turn to God in full obedience, from the heart. We are here given the promise that God will discipline us if we continue in our stubborn and rebellious ways. But why call this a promise and not a threat? It is because even as God disciplines His children, He does so in a kingly and fatherly manner that we may repent and not be condemned along with the rest of the world (cf., Hebrews 12: 5-9). God always gives us incentives for holy living. He corrects us and disciplines us according to His covenant faithfulness, always explaining to His children why His correction is needed. Do you need correction? Take heart, God is faithful and will deal graciously with you as a Father through our Lord Jesus Christ.
