Another way the sinner suppresses the truth is by denying that God judges sin. The sinner takes comfort in his sin by the fact that no judgment has yet fallen and he concludes that since no judgment has yet come, it never will come. Paul says that the clear message coming from God's delayed judgment is a call to repentance. When Paul talks about the final judgment day together with rewards, many claim that man's own works are involved in him being declared just in God's sight. Justification, however, of the saved, has already been declared before this final day of judgment begins. It is only Christ's works that secure our justification, our works are merely a consequence of this justification. Works reveal who is and who isn't justified, but they do not contribute anything toward God's declaration of just. Paul shows that the just have their focus upon things that are above, whereas the unjust have their focus upon themselves.
