Why do different preachers from different churches interpret passages differently? They serve the same God, receive the same faith, experience the same salvation, have the same desire and sincerity, are guided by the same Holy Spirit, but they derive different interpretations. The goal of interpreting the Word of God is to determine God's meaning. Nonetheless, we make our own choices of what God means as we determine what is right in our own eyes. It is apparent we choose conclusions to the best of our own abilities. Consider some of the contributing factors that explain why men of God differ in their understanding of some Scriptures. First, a depraved nature is unstable and has no rooting in a single truth. Second, different people know different things. Third, interpretations will differ due to differences in memory. Fourth, understanding Biblical definitions and fundamental truths are necessary to interpreting Bible stories and instruction correctly.
