King David was now well established as King of United Israel: We see David in his beautiful cedar wood palace, the king of a prosperous and enlarged kingdom, and the Lord had given him rest round about from all his enemies; Yet, David noticed that Jehovah was still worshipped in a tent - the Tabernacle was of course still in use. David wanted something better for the Lord. The Lord's answer to David was unexpected – it was gracious and Messianic, and is termed the Covenant with David.
