Two things stand out. There will be an end and that Christ will come back. Some Precursors to Christ's Return ["but the end is not yet" v. 6b] 1. The interim period will be filled with false teachers (vv. 4, 5, 11 [vv. 23, 24]). 2. The interim period will be characterized by wars (vv. 6, 7). 3. The interim period will be continue to have natural disasters (v. 7b). 4. Believers will be hated, persecuted, and killed (v. 9). 5. Many will fall away (vv. 10, 11). 6. The gospel will be proclaimed throughout the whole world (14). Conclusion: What is Jesus calling us to do in the light of all this? We are called to persevere (v. 13, "But the one who endures to the end will be saved."). Admittedly difficult but Jesus makes it clear that we must persevere. What to do? Humbly and daily depend upon the Lord.
