Hope in the Bible often means a certainty that has not yet been fully experienced. A certainty (reality) that has not yet been full experienced. In 1 Peter, God says believers have been born into a Living hope – a reality that has not yet been fully experienced. With that in mind, let's notice how Paul begins His defense with point #1… 1) Hope expected - v4-11 - God would one day come and deliver his people. 2) Hope defined - v12-18 - Jesus is the hope of his people (forgiveness, deliverance from Satan/sin, future resurrection) 3) Hope proclaimed - v19-29 - Repent, believe in Jesus, obey Jesus (perform deeds in keeping with repentance). Do you have hope this morning? Not same baseless optimism that everything is going to work out – but a certainty about your future and the future of this world around us. Jesus can give you a hope. Jesus can give you a future. Jesus is the hope! Believers do not despair. I know many of you are discouraged about the direction of our country and understandable so. But remember our hope is not in America, our hope is not in our leaders – our hope is in Jesus Christ. Be encouraged follower of Christ! You have a hope! You have a future! Right now you live in the reality that all your sins have been forgiven. You stand completely righteous before God! You live in the reality that you have been rescued from the domain of darkness and transferred to Christ's kingdom! You are free from sin's rule. You serve the risen, victorious King of the Universe! You have the sure promise of a perfect resurrected body and eternal life with God! You have a hope! Your hope is sure; it is certain.
