Editor's note: Despite a tornadic storm occurring at the very time of this sermon's preaching, the Word went out in the church's basement (to put certain of the Pastor's comments in context). Many people in the neighboring communities have lost their homes; please remember to pray for those who have suffered loss.
Aim: To be a church that enjoys refreshment from the presence of the Lord.
Doctrine: Conversion to, and life in Christ brings us times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord. These ''times'' are according to the new covenant church ''gospel calendar,'' and these ''times'' are experienced by us, as we are bound to Christ.
Exegesis: The necessary requirements for times of refreshing to come from the presence of the Lord: we must possess the Lord Jesus and His atoning forgiveness of our sins (vv. 17-21); God's promise of the Messiah's coming had to be fulfilled (and it was) (vv. 22-24); the risen Christ must bless His covenant church (and He does) (vv. 25-26).
Further application: How we may continue to experience times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord: by faithfully abiding in Jesus as His church, by faith, and by encouraging everyone to come to Christ, by faith.
Key verse: v. 19 ''Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord...''
