History: The children of Israel are rejoicing that the Ark of the Covenant is returning after being away for 80 years. This passage is a good lesson on how to praise God. I. Give Thanks (vs. 8-11) A. Call on His name. 1.) Call on His name loudly & verbally so others see His works. 2.) Vocalize His praises. B. Glory in His holy name. 1.) His name is important & to be revered. C. Seek the Lord continually, everyday. II. Remember His Works & His Other Glorious Aspects (vs. 12-22) A. His works are wonderful. B. His marvels & judgments. 1.) Only God could have done these works. 2.) He emphasizes God's complexity. C. A reminder of God's covenant w/the nation. 1.) A reminder to the importance of remembering. III. Proclaim (vs. 23-27). (this is known as the missionary portion of the passage.) A. His Good Tidings of Salvation. 1.) This emphasizes God's deliverance. B. His status as Creator God. 1.) Praise Him loudly & let everyone know only God could do these works. IV. Worship (vs. 28-33) A. Acknowledge God for who He is. Give Him proper recognition. B. Give an offering. 1.) Don't come to worship God empty-handed. 2.) Don't worship Him haphazardly. C. Give Him proper reverence. D. He's coming to earth to judge. V. Doxology (vs. 34-36) A. He is good & merciful. 1.) It is overwhelming the depth and breadth of His mercy & goodness. B. Call out to Him. 1.) He saves us so we can praise Him. So we can let the nations know who our God is. Give Thanks. (The children of Israel were charged w/not giving thanks enough even in trials.) - Remember His works. - Proclaim His praise. - Worship Him. - Praise Him.
