Joshua 7 is a hard chapter. It deals with some major issues in the unfolding history of God's people Israel.
By taking of the things that were "doomed to destruction" Achan (and thus all Israel) made themselves doomed to destruction. Unless the accursed things be removed, the entire nation would be accursed. Thankfully, this event is one of those examples of judgment that don't become normative. The parallel to Ananias and Sapphira is intriguing.
Theme: On account of the sin of Achan, the Children of Israel learn the necessity of hearing God and doing what He says.
