Peter wrote his second epistle shortly before his death as a martyr. This passage is stunningly pertinant as it is very possible that we will soon have very many martyrs even here in the United States. This message has to do first of all with a "right view of the delay of Christ's return. Second, with the danger of wresting the scriptures to our own destruction. Peter mentions Paul's epistles as having things "hard to be understood." This includes how pure grace is the source of a really holy life. Laws are not the source of a holy; not the law of Moses, still less the syncretistic old covenant laws of Bill Gothard. And I cannot help but wonder if the recently announced fall of another marriage/family guru was not connected with twisting, or distorting somewhat what the Bible really teaches about grace fueled families and marriages. Lastly, this message is about embracing a plan of growth that will prevent falling. There is no growing in grace apart from a growing illuminated knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
