The Secret of Contentment_01 1 Tim. 6:6-10 Happiness means something different to different people. Many, in our modern society, attempt to "find" happiness through material possessions, a new job, or even a significant other. In the end, though, these things often leave us just as empty as we were before. In a culture where many are focused on what they don't have, God calls us to focus on his spiritual provision.Don't lust after wealth, instead be content with what God has given you.Having wealth is not necessarily a sin. We have a problem, however, when we become so focused on becoming rich that we allow ourselves to fall into temptation. Our focus as believers should be eternal rather than temporary. If our attention is on Christ and his riches (even if that means poverty or suffering), we ultimately receive the greatest reward possible—eternity in his presence. In order to live and complete our lives upon earth, we need food, clothing, and shelter. But note: we need nothing else. We can live and sustain life if we have these things.True contentment comes only from godliness. |
