The Ghostly Apparition that Saved the Disciples.Matthew 14:22–30; Mark 6:45-51; John 6:16-21.With Jesus in the boat, the journey to shore was made quickly (John 6:21).When Jesus came into the boat, the wind ceased and the disciples worshiped him saying, "Of a truth thou art the Son of God" (Matt. 14:33). This was a remarkable advance in faith. They did not understand Jesus. They still thought in terms of a political kingdom, but they had learned from his teaching and his miracles that he was higher than they in character, in teaching, and in the exercise of God's power. I believe that Halloween is one of the masterstrokes of Satan, to make us believe that all of this is just so much of a fairy tale. And I want to tell you that the devil is real. He's not something to be laughed off and not something to be mimicked, and not something to be joked about. The devil is a decided fact. The devil is a destructive force. But thank God, the devil is a defeated foe. And greater is He that's in us than he that is in the world. The disciples were learning to trust Jesus. In calm and in storm, he will not forsake his children.Through Jesus we learn that God is no nameless dread to fear, nor a ghostly apparition, but a Father to be loved who desires to bring each one to life's true destiny. Can you walk on the sea? Anyone can walk on the land; but can you walk on the sea? What is your sea? You can walk on it if you will. Will you make Peter's prayer your prayer, "Bid me come unto thee on the water"?We look at the awful circumstances around us and at our own weakness instead of focusing on Jesus's power. When we begin to think of our sins and the uncertainties of life, we begin to sink.
