What an amazing week we have had in San Diego after Firestorm 2007! Confusion, despair, anger and dismay are everywhere as all sorts of people try to explain WHY this disaster has happened. There has been much for us to ponder as the people of God and good reason for self examination. In the Aftermath of the Fires in San Diego, We all have been confronted with the brevity of life, and how quickly our possessions can be taken away from us.
Pastor Curt felt compelled to speak to the issue of what we should learn from this Firestorm. We looked at several passages that speak to the folly of fixing your hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God! Americans often mistake outward prosperity with inward spiritual health! (They are Wrong!)
We looked at 2Peter 3:3-14 . This firestorm is but a tiny, little picture of the last and final judgment of the Day of the Lord. We have seen a tiny, but lacking- picture of Hell. So much of our area ended up in ash, but in Hell, the Worm does not ever die, and the fire in NEVER Quenched!
Pastor Curt had planned to begin an exposition of the minor prophet Haggai. We looked briefly at the first few verses where the Prophet complains that the house of the Lord was in ruins, while the people were giving all their time and energy to the building of their own nice houses (Sound familiar America?) They had misplaced priorities, like many believers today. The prophet tells them to consider their ways.
