Have you ever faced a situation that was so hard you thought it might be impossible? In our text, Jesus has just had a hard conversation with the rich young ruler, which ended in rejection and sadness. This occasion leads Jesus to consider a hard situation: the prospect of a rich man's entering the kingdom of God. How hard it is! So hard that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle. So hard that his disciples conclude that perhaps the situation is actually impossible. "Who then can be saved?" Jesus could soften the hardness or deny the impossibility, but instead he redirects their focus. He points them from earth to heaven, from men to God. The heart of the text is found in verse 27: "With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible."
