Over the first three chapters of Ephesians, Paul has taught us some of the most glorious theology in all of Scripture. We have learned the facts of the Christian life: who we were without Christ, what Christ has done for us, and who we are now. Chapter 4 functions as a sort of hinge in the book, in which we transition from the facts of the Christian life, now to a presentation of how we live in response to those facts. Paul tells us we are to "live in a way worthy of our calling", and over the next 3 chapters, he will teach us to do so with regards to unity in the church, marriage, childrearing, how we spend our time, how we talk to one another, and so on.
