Samson marries a Philistine woman, kills a lion, challenges 30 Philistines with a riddle, is pressured by his wife to give them the answer, and kills 30 other Philistines to pay a debt. When his wife is given to another man, he enacts vengeance by burning the Philistine crops. In response, the Philistines kill his wife, so Samson strikes them with a great slaughter. The Philistines arrest him, and Samson kills another 1,000 with the jawbone of a donkey. Once this work is finished, Samson cries out to God to spare his life. He then judges Israel for 20 years in the midst of Philistine oppression.
