To really know someone you have to see them angry. I recall my grandpa getting mad at me only once. I failed to show up for a visit we had planned and for which they had prepared food. When I called to cancel—far too late—Grandpa was angry. That day I came to better understand him and the value he placed on his wife's time and energy. Our anger reveals what we love, whether good or bad.
In Ezekiel 5 we see what makes God angry. God uses the following words in this stormy chapter: anger, burn, defile, destroy, die, execute, famine, fire, fury, rebuke, reproach, scatter, strike, taunt, terrible, waste, withdraw, wickedness.
Three themes in this chapter reveal God's anger and urge us to hope in him. |
