We have reached the end of Paul's second letter to Timothy. This passage defines true Biblical safety, and also the purpose behind Paul's life and ministry, which is to proclaim the excellencies of Christ. This is the life purpose of all believers. Paul describes how the Lord stood with him and strengthened him, so that the gospel would be fully known and that all the Gentiles would hear. He was delivered out of the mouth of the lion, which we could reasonably conclude to be the Evil One. He then goes on to say that the Lord delivered him from every evil deed, and will preserve him for the Heavenly Kingdom. Herein is true Biblical safety - being preserved by the Lord from evil deeds and apostasy, and kept faithful to the end. Our greatest fear must be Him who can destroy the soul, not those who can kill the body. Paul also mentions Prisca and Aquila, whom he greatly appreciated. Here is a demonstration that Paul was not a misogynist, and he did not oppose women being involved in ministry. However, elsewhere he defines that women are not to be pastors and elders. Prisca served with her husband. Paul also greatly loved Onesiphorus, and makes mention of him as well. This brother was one who ministered to Paul when all others had deserted him. Paul concludes by reiterating the primary importance of the soul over the body in saying, "The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit." He also desires that grace be with Timothy, which is the highest gift and covers all needs.
