We began a new sermon series this morning hearing from Philippians 1:-11. As in many of his letters' introductions, Paul reminds the readers of who they are in Christ, who he is and offers them grace and peace in the Lord Jesus Christ. This important piece is no mere wish but actually a remarkable statement on the authority and purpose of the Scripture. From this letter, from these very words of God, grace from God and peace with God, will be granted from the Holy Spirit. Paul then reminds the Philippians of his care for them and his constant prayers on their behalf. His prayer: that their own love would abound but that it would not be alone but that the vital qualities of knowledge and discernment would be added to their abounding love, making it useful and fruitful. When this is the case, and only when this is the case, you will be able to approved the things that are excellent, be sincere and without offense, filled with the fruits of righteousness to the glory and praise of God.
