Doesn't it seem like we sing Christmas songs robotically? I don't see too many people in tears of gratefulness when we're singing carols, even though the songs talk about our Savior, Jesus, lowering himself to be one of us to ultimately glorify God and save us.
I think it could be that we are nostalgically singing or that some of us just straight up don't like the sound of it. Maybe, it's the jingly bells, the lullaby sounds, or just too many happy songs in general. I'm not sure what makes anyone cringe when they hear a Christmas song, but I have friends who do. For these people, I hope there is a music room in Heaven that only plays major chords.
So often though, we don't consider the lyrics. I'm going to do that for us right now....consider the lyrics.
O come all ye faithful Joyful and triumphant. O come ye, O come ye To Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, Born the King of angels.
ALL believers, COME! Gather together with joy and triumph! To be triumphant is the feeling of being joyful, jubilant, and proud after a success or victory. We can come with joy and in triumph because our Savior has arrived! We are to come together and think of Him as a King, when He came in the form of a baby. This King left his rightful place in Heaven to bring himself low so that God could be glorified in Him and in us.
In Him doing this, we have the victory!!
1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 2:5-7 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
Throughout the season, we get to celebrate the event of His long-awaited coming!!
This celebration is from Him and through Him and to Him! (Romans 11:36)
So, this season, as we sing…
O, come let us adore Him. Christ the Lord.
Let's do just that...gather together to worship, honor, and love Jesus deeply.
