What happens when a Christian’s orthodoxy gives birth to orthopraxy?
In other words, what happens when a Christian’s correct Biblical thinking about God, sin, holiness, the church, and everything else finally begins to work itself out into godly living? It manifests in a beautiful doxology. The impact is profound and the results are eternal.
Operation Head Start Outreach was born out of such a desire. We didn’t want to be a church that simply settles for good theology without challenging our people to put what they know into practice in their particular spheres of influence: home, work and community.
In August, the leadership at the Logos Harlingen campus got together to discuss how we as a church could be more missional in the Harlingen area. We immediately began to look for God’s activity. Earlier in the year, we had been a part of an outreach to Le Moyne Gardens. God had blessed those efforts by saving a young lady and then calling her family to attend our church.
Recognizing God’s activity and knowing where we are to serve and love on our community was a crucial first step. Next came the call to action: we challenged our Community Groups to be on the frontline of missional impact.
In reality, what we were doing was asking our church to move from orthodoxy to orthopraxy, to move from simply believing that a church should be missional to actually going out and being an active part of God’s activity in the community.
The call went out and our Community Groups responded. By God’s grace, Logos Harlingen was able to provide Thanksgiving dinner to each of the 27 families in the Head Start Program at Le Moyne Gardens. We were also able to cast a vision for how we are going to maintain a consistent presence there in the months and years ahead.
