Jer 9:23-24 Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
There are many that brag about their wisdom today. Then there are the powerful that delight in their strength and physique. Even in the economic times in which we live with so much poverty, there are many rich people that flaunt their wealth. But the verse for consideration points our hearts to the greatest wisdom one could ever possess, the greatest might one could obtain and the greatest wealth that can be obtained by anyone. Knowing God! A spiritual and saving knowledge of Jesus Christ is the greatest need and blessing offered to every human creature.
The verse does not imply that a simple head knowledge will suffice our inner need of the soul. Our soul needs to know God not only through understanding but through experience. The God of your soul loves to express lovingkindness, judgment and righteousness in you! He delights to work in your life and show Himself for who He really is. He loves being God in your life! He loves you and He loves the relationship of revealing Himself to you.
Jesus asked Peter one day, "Who do ye say that I am?" Without hesitation Peter replied, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God!" Jesus told Peter that he was a blessed man for His Father had revealed this truth to him (Matthew 16:15-17). From that day forward Peter, through experience began his journey of getting to know this God. Peter's last word to us all is found in the very last verse of his inspired writings. 2Pe 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
Every experience of life that you encounter is your God given opportunity to understand and know God better. No matter the nature of the experience, whether it be considered by us to be good or bad; there is our God waiting to reveal more of Himself to us. In some of our experiences of life our wisdom will fail us, our strength will be too small and our wealth could never buy our way out of the storm. But God will never fail us nor forsake us! Be still and know that He is God!
Job 22:21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee.
