Here is Dr. Bacon writing direct again. I'm at the skynet internet next to the cafe aroma again. It is Saturday noon here in Myanmar and I'm out doing some shopping "against the Sabbath day." Like last week, I thought I would stop by the internet cafe here at skynet and post some more direct thoughts.
We finished the Psalter translation this AM. Or rather we finished this "leg" of the work. On March 20th Thang Bwee will have another look at it and then after that the Karen brothers will look at it one last time before we "go to press." This means we will go through a more extensive revision process than even I imagined, but I think it is much better to get it as close as possible to the Psalms of David in Hebrew before publishing.
This brings us to how readers of this blog can help out. We will publish in Myanmar where publishing costs are far less than in the US, but it will still not be "free" to put together this book. Much of the time of the revisers from this point forward will be "strictly volunteer," meaning no payment. The devotion of the men we hired for this project has been exemplary. They were hired thinking that they would simply be updating "some old songs" in Burmese. When they found out that they were actually handling the word of God they were truly in awe of the project. In fact, they have spent as much time outside of the project praying for wisdom and skill as they have spent in the project doing the actual work.
I noted that one of my previous emails home has been posted to the blog...the one in which I described the method they use for doing the revision work. Once we finished the project this morning (152 Psalm settings), we spent about another half hour or so in prayer over the work that had been done -- praying that God would use it to further the gospel of King Jesus throughout the nation of Myanmar (Burma).
