Forgiveness

This forgiveness that is with God, is such as becomes Him; such as is suitable to His greatness, goodness and all other excellences of His nature; such as that therein He will be known to be God. What He says concerning some of His works of providence, “Be still, and know that I am God,” may be much more said concerning this great effect of His grace; “still your souls and know that He is God.”

It is not like that narrow, difficult and limited forgiveness that is found amongst men – but it is full, free, bottomless, boundless, absolute; such as becomes His nature and excellences. It is, in a word, forgiveness that is with God, and by the exercise whereof He will be known so to be – God Himself doth really separate and distinguish His forgiveness from anything that our thoughts and imaginations can reach unto; and that because it is His, and it is like Himself.

Forgiveness is an object for faith alone which can rest in that which it cannot comprehend. Faith is never safer than when it is, as it were, overwhelmed with infiniteness.

Christ Valued Only By Sinners

Christ is not valued nor His grace appreciated until men have a genuine knowledge of their misery, helplessness, and lost condition because of sin. When sin is sin indeed, then grace is grace indeed, and Christ is Christ indeed. If men have a superficial sense of sin, they have a superficial faith in Christ.

Preach God As He Is!

“I try diligently to preach God as He is to sinners, as they are, and to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ as the only Mediator between a holy God and sinful man, the all glorious, all-sufficient Savior.

I try my best to preach to men and women:

1. A God they cannot satisfy.

2. A holy law they cannot keep.

3. An obedience they cannot render.

4. A righteousness they cannot produce.

5. A love they cannot give.

6. A sinfulness they cannot get rid of.

7. A just judgment they cannot endure.

8. A required repentance they cannot produce.

9. A saving faith that can only be obtained as a free gift of God.

10. Christ, who fully satisfied God for His elect, both law and justice.
