"Cease to hear instruction, my son, and you will stray from the words of knowledge. "
Here is the hardest thing for us to remember in regards to our spiritual health… if we don’t constantly pour truth into our hearts and minds, we will turn to lies. We will begin to drift off course and will follow after the ways of the world around us. We will begin to tell ourselves that it must be right because everyone couldn’t be wrong. We will begin to justify our sin and the sin of others because we have to "follow our hearts". Beloved, here is the truth - our hearts are deceitful (Jeremiah 17.9) , our wills are running toward evil continually (Romans 3.9-18) and our flesh seeks our destruction (Galatians 5.17; 1Peter 2.11). We are spiritual colanders, every good thing we put in leaks out… therefore we MUST be intentional about our aim. The truth that we learned yesterday will not sustain us today unless we shore it up with truth from God's Word TODAY. The manna in the wilderness was a picture of this need; those who tried to store it for the next day found the sweet bread of heaven turned to maggots and rot. The same is still true today. What we learned yesterday was for yesterday, and God has supply for us today. Part of the reason behind this is that we need GOD. We need to be in constant relationship with Him and we need to spend time in His presence daily. But because we are busy, because we are too enamored of our own intelligence and abilities, because we love what we love and don’t want to turn away from our pet sins, we will come no closer to God and truth than we think we absolutely have to; we will go as far as we think can get away with; and we will tell ourselves that it is alright. But a remarkable metamorphoses happens to us when we dwell richly in the Word. We begin to be transformed as God renews our mind (Romans 12.1) and when that occurs, we see the world in a new way, our new man is shaped, is made stronger by constant interaction with God through His Word, and more, we begin to understand the lies of the enemy AS lies, and thus are less susceptible to them. Dearly Beloved, the pivot of your life's quality is this fact; you need to constantly be refreshed in the fountain of truth that is the Word of God, lest you be led after lies that will steal your joy and destroy your life.
