What do you listen for when you listen for the voice of God? Do you expect to hear anger, condemnation and doom? While it is true that those things may be present for those who are opposed to God, for those who have no desire to obey God, for those whose only desire is rebellion, for those who begin by telling God what they will not do... in other words, when we are neither listening TO God nor FOR Him; at those times we may hear the thunders of His judgment and wrath, and truly, the warnings of God are not to be lightly ignored... but when we seek Him, when we set our face towards Him, when we position our hearts to hear His voice, we WILL hear Him speak peace. This is because He cares for those who are His own. And more than simply caring for us, He guides us and keeps us from turning back to our folly. It is peace to us because God Himself has paid the full price to purchase our peace. He has provided for us the Prince of Peace to bear the price of our rebellion, to pay the debt for our sin. This salvation is promised to those who fear Him, who walk in obedience to His word, who live out the will of God and become the very display of His glory, dwelling in the midst of this darkened land. Dear frightened child, cease running from God! Cease your empty wars of selfish pride and turn instead with your whole heart to seek His face. He is not far off, only turn and look; you will find peace in the thunder of His voice, you will find comfort in the strength of His embrace!!
