The real work of the servants of God is displayed here... we can only proclaim the truth of God's Word and the outward effects of this work can look like real living men... but without the breath of life they are still lifeless; still empty; still condemned; still dead. We do not have the power to call the dead to life, that is God's job. We cannot SAVE anyone, only God can save, all we do is preach the truth, all we do is plant seeds, or water... all we do is pull up weeds, or cultivate... and all of these activities are worthless unless God is pleased to grant life. We must understand this truth and be always aimed at God in all our work. We must bathe our labor in prayer, we must seek the Spirit to quicken the dead, we must live our testimonies in a manner that we do not introduce arguments into the minds of our hearers. We must labor from the dawn to the setting sun and then more, we must labor to be workmen approved, rightly dividing the word of truth… and then we must understand that without the power of God upon the hearer, there is no change. This is God's work. It is His name. It is His glory. It is His. All of man's "great programs" mean less than nothing in the balance, for God will not share His glory with another, and we are so very prone to give credit to programs. All of our talent, charisma, personality and wisdom can only have the effect of harming our hearers if we do not constantly remind ourselves that WE are not the answer they seek and WE are not the hope they need. Oh Christian, set aside your ego and remember that all we can make are statues, empty husks incapable of life, but God creates life from emptiness, from death itself. It is His work, be grateful that He permits us to participate with Him, and give Him the glory that is His!!
