The relationship which the world around has to us is always going to be antagonistic. They hate us as they have always hated us for the same reasons that they have always hated us... we are not the same. We, who are in Christ, are children of the promise. All who are not found in Him are not. That is the great divide of mankind, the great divide of all creation... those who belong to God, and those who do not. However, what is true about how they see us and hate us is NOT true of how we see them, it is NOT true of how we think about and feel about them. We are to see the lost around us as potential family. Seeking to find our kin among the dying, snatching them from the fire and seeing them redeemed to our mutual Father. This means that our response to circumstances cannot look like the world's responses. We are called to use all opportunity to advance the Kingdom of God. But here is where it gets tricky, beloved of God, for all of our efforts will be misconstrued, misunderstood and ridiculed. We will be hated for doing what is right in the sight of God. So if your motivation is the praise of men, if you seek to win awards from the courts of men's applause, if you seek to be popular and beloved of men; remember that your Lord died alone, a criminal's death, shamed, humiliated and hated... and of His death, the Father said "Well Done!!!" We must look with better eyes than are possessed in all the heads of men, to see through the eyes of God!
