Receiving Correction

Romans 15:14–15 (NKJV): Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren, that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. Nevertheless, brethren, I have written more boldly to you on some points, as reminding you, because of the grace given to me by God...

There is a trend in modern Christendom, that takes offense at admonition, that bristles at correction, that gets angry at reproof. It lacks clarity, being neither healthy nor faithful. It is unfaithful in this; the servant of God is commanded to say all that God gives him to say, which includes the occasional instruction to correct, reprove, admonish... and to demand that he disobey God is to seek both his ruin and your own. It is unhealthy in that scripture reminds us that our Father chastens those He loves and reproves those that He accepts as sons, so to seek to avoid that, is to seek to be other than a son... and it also makes a presumption that is usually false... the underlying assumption seems to be that the servant of God has a desire to hurt, and further, that he has some right or authority to say other than what God has given him to say... while it may be true in some cases that the message which offended is utterly of the flesh, it is also true that God will deal with every man who presumes to speak in His name. The safest, wisest and healthiest course of action for the body is this; prayerfully weigh what has been said, ask God to powerfully apply what needs to be applied, and leave the rest for those to whom it does apply. Lift up the man of God in prayer and ask that God grant him understanding to speak with power and unction, and that he be protected from those who seek to silence the message and harm the messenger.
