The greatest problem in Nigeria is false prophets. They deceive the people and offer cover to all manner of corruption. When you can pay for "blessings", then it doesn't matter where the money comes from, and the ends - more money - justifies the means. When blessings do not come by the obedience of Christ, and when the blessing isn't obedience to Christ in love, joy, and peace with godly contentment, then whatever I've got to do to get mine, no matter who it hurts, is accepted.
I was traveling a garbage filled, flooded, and broken down highway that's best traversed by motor bike, when it became clear that the government must hate the people, or they wouldn't treat them like this, when there are so many resources - oil, fertile land, and some of the hardest working people on earth. Surely, if they had the love of Christ, they'd have to do something. Pity and compassion would cause them to help the people. Truth and justice would prick the conscience. But, so long as they can drop money in the offering box and pay for their blessings, they are paraded as examples of what seed money can do, while they squeeze the blood out of the people.
It's a mess. A heartbreak and a shame. But, I have hope for Nigeria. People know they are getting scammed.
On Saturday, I preached at a pastor's conference, and told the people that they pay the prophet month after month, year after year, day after day, for the proclamation that, "This is your year!" "Today is your day!" And, "This new month, it will happen!" Then, they go right back out to the same poverty, difficulty, and nothing happens but the prophet gets rich, and you get more debt. It's a scam, a mockery of the gospel, and the average age of death in Nigeria is 53yo, while the fake prophet decrees, "It shall not happen to you", and, "I declare, loose, and unlock your blessing with this seed money." We laughed, and I cried. It's a joke - the most heart breaking thing I've seen in my life.
Shame on EVERY pastor lying to these people, and every greedy dog of a false prophet (Isa 56:11). The Lord Jesus is coming for you, and you better repent before He tosses you into hell. You will not fool Him. Your refusal to fear God is the only thing that lets you sleep at night.
Get away from these charlatans, and unite with the truth. We're having another pastors conference, God willing, and there will be a free book, and all the help we can give, as a few men who preach truth gather together to help you. I'll post more details later, but the theme is PREACHING CHRIST, and it's the only hope Nigeria has. May God, in His mercy toward blind and weary people, give us a mighty voice in these dark days, and may He rattle His elect like dry bones into life.
Nothing can stop this gospel. I am sure of that. It is the most powerful thing in the world to expose iniquity and give life to the dead. No false prophet can stop it. They can only be crushed in due time. Satan cannot keep the elect bound.
"For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and annihilate by the majesty of His arrival.
The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder, and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them. For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie, in order that judgment will come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.
But we should always thank God for you, brothers who are loved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning to be saved by the sanctification of the Spirit and by faith in the truth." (2 Thess 2:7-13)
