What then shall we say to these things?

If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

If you are trusting in Christ Jesus as your Lord and Savior, then you have every reason to have full confidence and assurance that God knows you, is keeping you, and will ultimately, finally save you! Just the fact that you believe in Jesus is the greatest ground possible to defeat worry, fretting, and anxiety concerning anything you face in this life or anything meant to be detrimental than anyone does to you or says about you!

Here is why I state that is the case for believers. Paul first asks in Romans 8:31, “What then shall we say to these things?” Before we see his answer in the next phrase to that question, we need to see what are the “these things” to which he is referring. In the preceding verses Paul communicates that our salvation in Christ is a work of God’s grace that stretches all the way from eternity past to eternity future. This is often called the golden chain of salvation. God’s grace in salvation begins with predestination (before time), then moves to calling and justification (in time), and finally culminates in glorification (beyond time). From eternity to eternity, God has been saving you, is saving you and will save you. Because this is a work of God’s grace, it cannot be undone, stopped, or lost. The golden chain of salvation cannot be broken!

That is precisely why Paul answers his first question with a rhetorical second question. “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Because our salvation began before the foundation of the world and due to the fact that it is a work of God’s grace that is not complete until glorification is achieved, as believers we can be absolutely sure that GOD IS FOR US!!! And if He is for us, then who can be against us?
