How is Greatness Measured? Sept 10-14 TVD
The world measures greatness by the display of power and the ability to rule and exercise authority over others. Successful athletes and entrepreneurs are said to be great. Political powers and nations are said to be great in regard to their power and authority over others. Greatness, by the world’s standard, means to be greater than others, over others, better than others. Not so in God’s kingdom. Greatness in God’s kingdom is measured on an entirely different scale. It’s not how high or how far over others you dominate or exercise your authority or wield your power. It’s actually the opposite. It’s how far under you exercise your abilities and resources not to better yourself, but for the betterment of others. It’s not about getting your way. It’s not about having others or manipulating others to do your bidding. It’s about how far you kneel in order to serve others.
Jesus, the greatest human being who ever lived, taught us in Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve…” And to what degree did Jesus serve? How far did He stoop in His greatness for the betterment and benefit of others? “…and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
The world’s accolade of greatness comes and goes. The Kingdom’s standard of greatness is forever. May we be great in the greatest way possible. The Kingdom way. The Jesus way. Let our greatness be our service to others! The way to real, true greatness is to lowliness!
