God provides His own Mediator as we have discussed in the past and the cross in bold relief and we are redeemed in Christ ALONE as He meets God's justice. Now we ask ourselves how do we know this? The simple answer is from the Holy Gospel and the preaching of it!
Holy Gospel is not a scriptural term. When we talk about the Gospel we do NOT make it equal with the scriptures. In the Old Testament they had only the sacred writings and in Moses' time they had only the Pentateuch. Although they are intimately connected we do not equate these two. The Gospel is found in the scriptures as it was written and we have all of scripture in its complete form today. Scripture grew through the ages but the Gospel stood before the scriptures...the good news of salvation!
The contents of the Gospel is the revelation of God in the face of our Lord Jesus Christ. Why do we speak of the Holy Gospel then? We must be holy, and the word holy means dedication...set apart to something and it is holy because 1) it comes from God who is holy and 2) God has dedicated or separated it to the ingathering of His church...a very dedicated purpose of God as it relates to scripture. It is for the opening and closing of His kingdom the two edge sword. Christ and Him crucified is the central theme of the Gospel...redemption from sin into the liberty of Christ! The way of sin and grace! (John1) We see the grace and truth of God revealed to us in Christ our Mediator. The Gospel is ALL about Christ from the beginning in paradise, through the patriarchs (redemptive history) and the seed that would be born our of Abraham and by faith be the children of Christ! Also through the prophets where you find the cross no matter which one you study as they shadowed THE PROPHET! John was the greatest prophet and he did not want to baptize Christ. Through the dispensation even today...the preaching of Christ and Him crucified.
Christ and Him crucified which is the Gospel...the ONLY way of salvation. OUR salvation and the very purpose of God as He preaches a salvation from bondage into a glorious liberty of SONSHIP! And that Word is always accomplishes its end. The power of God unto salvation using foolishness to men to accomplish His will.
Have you considered just what a joy it is to be involved with that Gospel?!!!
