The Lord's Days proceeding were in the section of thankfulness and gratitude. Following that is knowing our sanctification. This gratitude is broken down into 2 things: the law of God and prayer, which is the CHIEF part of thankfulness.

But what are we exactly talking about when we talk about good works? We must distinguish between works and good works (LD24.) Good works do NOT belong to nor are they part of our justification. In the keeping of in the works of the law there is no righteousness in the works of the law (although Christ fulfilled the law in HIS righteousness.)

Why if we are justified in Christ already still do good works? They have EVERYTHING to do with our sanctification! Why do we bother working out our salvation when we are already saved in Christ? They are inherent in a child of God! They are in inherent part of the life of a child of God (Romans6) As we are dead and buried with Christ, so are we alive and raised with Him! We are partakers of Christ's death not only, but also partakers in His resurrection unto a new and holy life.....dead to sin even though sin is not dead in us as we are in our bodies. We ARE redeemed people of God and how can we serve sin or use out members to be the servant of sin? But we live a service unto God and unto His glory....and therefore we live different, antithetical lives!

There is a threefold purpose.

1. First and foremost is the glory of God. Why has He called and touched us and why are we Christians? Always for the glory of God! That is why we are of this world and NOT of it. Let our entire life be free from that calling!

2. That we may see in our lives that we are Christians. We KNOW we are Christians. A good tree brings forth good fruit. We have sin in our lives still being in the flesh, but God will bring His children back ALWAYS.

3. That God will use it in others to win others to Christ. The Lord uses us and our good works. Have you noticed that we are told NOT to hide our praises from our children or our children's children as parents? This is also apparent wherever we go in our daily lives as we live unto the glory of God in the whole of our lives! May others see us and God use it to His glory!
