Growing up as a plow boy, picking cotton and shooting squirrels for a livelihood, I heard this following story, for whatever it’s worth. I don’t know whether it’s true or not, but it does illustrate a point which is very important.

Here goes the story: Zeke and Jake were busy picking cotton when suddenly Jake was getting hungry and wishing it was lunch time. Now Zeke had recently bought him a ninety-eight cent graham pocket watch. Every little while he would pull it out and look at it, mostly because he wanted others to see it and brag on it. So Jake asked Zeke what time it was. Zeke simply pulled out that new pocket watch and showed him and he said, “shore is,” but neither of them could tell time.

That’s about the way some of God’s children are. He has given us a Bible and we may be proud to show it, but we don’t know it, and cannot tell that we are living in the last days. There is nothing wrong with our equipment (The Bible) but we cannot read it and understand that perilous times have already come and it is later than we think. Jesus could come any time now. We cannot know the exact day, hour or minute he will arrive, but anyone who can tell time at all knows it may be any time now.

Since God does not choose to tell us the exact time he will come, we should be saved and ready just in case he comes today.

It may be one of our readers will say they do not have time to be concerned about these matters right now. Well, my friend, you ought to give God priority over all other things. One day you will have time to die. You will leave all other things behind and go when death calls. You then will have time to face God and you will drop all these other things. No time for God? The clock of time is ticking and curtain time may be near for someone who is reading this article.
