In this old world of toils and snares, many tears are shed each day. Some cry for the loss of a loved one. Many shed tears of compassion for an ill relative who suffers great pain. We see weeping many times when a great storm destroys all we ever worked for, in a matter of several minutes. Yes, life brings much sadness for most of us, even at best. Rivers of tears are shed over great wars in our world.

There is nothing wrong with weeping. Even Jesus wept at the grave of Lazarus while He stood there comforting Mary and Martha. On many other occasions his heart was broken. Some tears are well justified, and I feel sorry for anyone who cannot weep.

I believe we need such a burden for souls that we can weep and pray for their salvation. A soul is worth more than all of the earth’s heaped up treasures.

Listen to what the psalmist had to say about this subject in Psalm 126:5-6, “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed (the gospel of Jesus Christ), shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves (converted ones) with him.” We must sow Gospel seed.

Men and women of our day seem to be more hard hearted than they were in days gone by. I remember when it was not unusual at all to see a mother and father kneeling at an altar, weeping and praying for a prodigal son, daughter, or loved one. Now we are to cold, dead, ashamed, or indifferent to shed a tear for anything. We have lost the power of God in our lives too.

Do we not need to pray, “Lord revive me again and give me back my tears along with your power?”
